An Artist Becomes a Homeowner
Sally, a long time renter in Baltimore City, was frustrated paying a high rent for a small apartment and dealing with uncooperative landlords. In 2002, when the Circle gave Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity (CHH) $8000 to support the third All Women Build project, Sally had an opportunity to work with CHH and, with the help of other women, build a home of her own. She has stayed involved with Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity, and has been active on every Women Build project since.
The Baltimore Women’s Giving Circle has been instrumental in Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity’s ability to serve Baltimore City families over the past several years. The Women Build project brings together a network of individual women and women’s organizations to renovate a house for a family in need in Baltimore City. The goal of this project is to mobilize the many women who already volunteer with Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity and give them the chance to take the lead on the construction site.
Sally is a responsible, respected homeowner in her new community and continues to be a blessing to Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity! A graduate of The Maryland Institute College of Art, she is an artist who donates her artwork each year to the Habitat Harvest auction, bringing in hundreds of dollars to support its mission to serve low income families in Baltimore City.
