Join a Committee

We hope you will choose to serve on a committee each year.

Although not required, joining a committee is a wonderful way to become involved in the work of the Circle and to get to know other members. If you have questions and would like to talk about committee participation, you are welcome to e-mail or call committee co-chairs.

Members of the Circle can choose to serve on one or more of the following committees with the exception of the Nominating Committee and Steering Committee:

Communications Committee »

The primary conduit for information for and about the Circle, the committee develops the content and oversees production and mailing of the bi-annual BWGC newsletter, produces a monthly e-newsletter for members, periodic news releases, and the constantly updated BWGC web site.

Web Site Subcommittee »

Education Committee »

Plans Full Circle Meetings, Briefing Breaks and Site Visits, supplemented by fact sheets, to educate members about various issues affecting women and children in greater Baltimore and about the work of BWGC grantees. The committee is divided into two working groups: one plans the Full Circle meetings and the other plans the Briefing Breaks and Site Visits.

Grants Committee »

Reviews and updates the process for selecting grantee organizations each year, conducts the review and evaluation of grant proposals, and discusses ways to improve the substance and process of BWGC's grant-making. The Grants Committee works to enhance BWGC's outreach to non-profits that fit within the mission of BWGC. The Documents Subcommittee reviews the forms BWGC uses for the grant applications and for evaluating grant proposals. The RFP Subcommittee identifies organizations that fit within the Circle’s mission. The Readers Subcommittee reviews grant proposals, conducts site visits, and selects grantees to be funded. The entire Circle membership votes to ratify the slate recommended at the Annual Meeting in May.

Membership Committee »

Provides and updates information to prospective members and welcomes new members, facilitating their participation in Circle activities and committees. The committee plans new and prospective member orientations, follows up with all new members for committee selection, and assists the Education Committee in collecting needed items for grantees at Full Circle meetings.

Nominating Committee »

Develops policies and procedures for leadership transition within the Circle and nominates the BWGC co-chairs and officers for consideration by the BWGC general membership. This committee is by appointment.

Post Grant Evaluation Committee (PGEC) »

Reviews and evaluates information received from BWGC grantees. Committee members interview grantees during the grant period to see how they are progressing with projects supported by BWGC and, after the grant period is over, to verify that funds were used as proposed and to learn as much as possible about factors contributing to a project’s success, so that Circle members can become better philanthropists.

Steering Committee »

Consists of BWGC co-chairs, officers and committee chairs and is responsible for coordinating activities and developing policies that guide BWGC.

Visioning Committee »

Visioning looks  at new opportunities, ideas and approaches for the Circle and identifies ways that the Circle can adapt to changing circumstances and best position itself for the future.  Membership on the Visioning Committee is by appointment.
