FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Baltimore Women’s Giving Circle
Gives $339,000 to 19 Non-Profits
(Baltimore, MD, 10/12/2011) Nineteen Baltimore area non-profit organizations serving disadvantaged women and their families have been awarded $339,075 in grants from the Baltimore Women’s Giving Circle at the Baltimore Community Foundation.
The grants, ranging from $5,000 to $20,000, will help support programs to provide medical and housing services for homeless women and their children, counseling for adolescent girls at high risk of experiencing sexual and domestic violence, after-school programs for at-risk youth, and other needed health, social, and educational services.
The grants are funded by annual donations of $1,000 from more than 350 Baltimore area women. Since making its first charitable distributions in 2002, the Circle has awarded 170 grants exceeding $2.3 million to 120 area organizations.
Nearly 90 Circle members participated directly in this year’s grant-making process, said Circle co-chair Ellen Bernard. Members reviewed 115 grant applications and visited prospective candidates’ sites, talking with service providers and recipients.
Circle members will stay in touch with grantees to monitor each project’s success or challenges. The Circle’s Grantee Connect program also brings grantees in similar or related areas together to promote information exchange and collaborative ventures.
