Multi-Ethnic Domestic Violence Project (MEDOVI)

MEDOVI provides pro bono legal help to foreign-born women who are victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or human trafficking who are seeing immigration status independent of their abusers. In 2020, they anticipate serving 90+ individual clients; 40 will speak a language other than English and all will be immigrants/ refugees/ asylum seekers. MODOVI staff assist women to obtain immigration benefits, waivers, and visas to empower them to leave their abusers. They collaborate with organizations such as Adelante Familia and Tahirih Justice Center, and service providers such as MD Hum Trafficking Board. 90% of clients report increased awareness of strategies to prevent domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence and/or stalking and 90% an increase in safety.
